Gueorgui Gospodinov is one of the most important authors of the contemporary Bulgarian and European literary scenes. He is a writer, poet, and columnist and his works have been translated into over 30 languages. He has won various national and international awards, including the prestigious 2023 International Booker Prize for his novel Time Shelter (published by Weidenfeld and Nicholson in the UK in 2022).
He played a major role in reinventing the literary scene in post-Cold War Bulgaria. His second novel Fizika na Tagata (The Physics of Sorrow) became a bestseller of the decade in his home country. In his works, he reflects upon how Europe confronts the past, as well as on the perils of nostalgia and the important role of memory in shaping the future. He recently published in Spanish his collection of short stories Acerca del Robo de Historias y Otros Relatos (Impedimenta, 2024, Y otras historias, 2001).
